“The CJ effect" that is the title I would choose for the book about my life. "The CJ effect" signifies the intersection of my personal and professional experiences and how they influence my counseling style.

I am a Latina, native Houstonian, University of Houston alumni, daughter, sister, mentor, friend. I like yoga, music, coffee shops, art museums, gardens, and film. I see myself as strong yet gentle, simple yet complex. This may seem like a contradiction but knowing, accepting, and embracing who I am is the result of years of self-reflection and constant learning. I truly enjoy my work and value the ability to help others embark on their own journey of self-discovery. I believe counseling is a process of genuinely examining our lives, increasing our awareness, and empowering ourselves. I will help you explore your needs and wants, fears and hopes, thoughts and feelings, and how they may influence your life and relationships. I believe exploring the different aspects of who we are provides us with the opportunity for growth.

I am also a bilingual licensed counseling psychologist, a certified treatment specialist for diverse populations, and a couples therapist. I am a member of The Texas Psychological Association and The Houston Psychological Association.  My primary approach to counseling is to provide you with empathy, positive regard, and support as you challenge yourself to step out of your comfort zone. I do not take the trust my clients place in me for granted; I believe it is a privilege to work with each person in counseling and explore themes they may not share with others. I work with each client to consider how different factors including: age, degree of cognitive and physical ability, religion/spirituality, race/ethnicity, social class, sexual orientation, gender expression, individual experiences, national origin, and others may influence their lives and relationships.

I have 15 years of experience in a variety of settings including university counseling centers, school districts, substance abuse clinics, non-profit organizations, and private practice. My areas of expertise include: emotion focused therapy, depression and anxiety disorders, interpersonal concerns, adjustment disorders, identity, life transitions, family of origin issues, couples counseling, multicultural and diversity Issues, and grief. I am happy to provide counseling services in English and Spanish.
