ABOUT DR. JIMENEZ

Dr. Carolina Jimenez specializes in conducting comprehensive psychological evaluations for VAWA, U visa, asylum, and extreme hardship cases; she has completed over TWO DOZEN trainings to conduct immigration evaluations and has completed over 890 evaluations. Dr. Jimenez is a bilingual (English and Spanish) psychologist licensed by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists, a Certified Treatment Specialist for Diverse Populations, and is certified to administer the Danger Assessment scale.

Dr. Jimenez started working with immigrants conducting clinical interviews in 1998 as part of a research team studying immigrants’ mental health with the Center for Immigration Research at the University of Houston. She was also part of a research team at the University of Houston investigating characteristics of couples in domestically abusive relationships.

Dr. Jimenez has been practicing psychotherapy since beginning her Masters Clinical Psychology program in 2000, at the University of Houston – Clear Lake. She has over 20 years of experience as a psychotherapist in out-patient settings including in substance abuse rehabilitation facilities, university counseling centers, school districts, non-profit organizations, and private practice. Dr. Jimenez has conducted psychological evaluations for cognitive, personality, legal/forensic, immigration, neuropsychological, ADHD, and learning disabilities assessments.  

Additionally, her graduate school research projects include: 1. her dissertation examining predictors of wellbeing and depression among Latino college students, 2. her thesis analyzing predictors of depression among Central American and Mexican Immigrants, and 3. her masters research studying college adaptation of international and first generation students; these extensive projects provided her with insight regarding the unique factors contributing to wellbeing and mental health concerns among historically underserved and immigrant populations.  

Due to her expertise in the area of immigrants’ mental health Dr. Jimenez has been invited to various media outlets to comment about the topic, has presented her research findings at conferences, and has trained other mental health professionals on the subject of immigration and wellbeing.

 

Dr. Jimenez consistently receives five star reviews for the quality of her immigration evaluations reports.  Dr. Jimenez was named one of Houston's top five psychologists in 2020, was the winner of the Houston Awards: Psychologists for 2022, and was named one of Houston's top 3 psychologists and one of the top five psychologists in Houston by HTown Best  in 2023.
